Pricing Through the Lens: An Insight into My Unique Business Model

July 7th, 2026

In 2026, I found myself in the unique position of being a sole proprietor of a small business, with distinct facets that set me apart as a queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill, and manual wheelchair user. As a photographer and videographer, my approach to pricing is inherently different from my contemporaries. Over the last 15 years, I have seen the industry evolve and adapted my pricing strategy accordingly, with a keen focus on benefiting the couples I work with.

My journey began in 2011, starting from scratch and setting prices based on my expenses, the standard market rate, and most importantly, my value as an artist. As a neurodivergent individual, I see the world through a distinctive lens, creating visuals that others may overlook. This uniqueness is a value-add that I incorporate into my pricing. My queer identity also allows me to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ couples, who might find it challenging to find understanding photographers and videographers. This niche of inclusivity is another aspect I consider while pricing.

Managing a chronic illness and being a wheelchair user, I face additional challenges. The physical exertion of a shoot can exacerbate my condition, and accessibility can be a hurdle. Despite these challenges, I have turned them into strengths. Though I may need more breaks, they provide opportunities for candid shots. My wheelchair gives me a unique perspective, literally a different angle, which adds a different creative dimension to my work. These elements, though they add to my costs in terms of time and effort, also contribute to my unique offering and are factored into my pricing.

Over the years, I have noticed that my unique approach and perspective have particularly benefited the couples I work with. They appreciate the distinct creativity and sensitivity I bring to their shoots. They value the unique, inclusive, and empathetic approach I provide, making them feel comfortable, seen, and valued. This positive feedback and the relationships I build with my clients have reinforced my belief in my pricing strategy. It reflects not just the quality of my work, but also the unique experience and perspective I offer. Today, in 2026, my pricing is more than just numbers; it's a reflection of my journey, my struggles, my strengths, and the unique value I bring to my clients.
